Once you've found your temporary vacation home, read the fine print! Make sure you know what you're responsible for and what it offers- cleaning/housekeeping, is internet included, parking, can your dog Pepe come along, is there a grill or beach chairs if you're staying by the water?
Make sure you know who to contact in case of an emergency or issue. Get a contact number for who to call if you need repairs.
Know what to do in the area in which you're staying! Research the area before arrival, plan trips, check transportation availability.
Save money on meals by utilizing the kitchen! 
Pay attention to the listed description of beds and how many people you're rental sleeps.
Do a walk through before you leave! Don't forget anything and make sure everything is good to go!
